Edvard Munchs Gemälde Der Schrei wurde am 2. Mai 2012 bei Sotheby’s Impressionist and Modern Art Auktion für $119,922,600 verkauft. Ich hörte davon am Radio und dachte, dass Munch, der sich nie einen solchen Preis erträumte, selber am Weinen war. Daraus entstand am selben Tag eine Serie von 28 Variationen nach Der Schrei, auf den Zwischenblättern eines Heftes, das früher 24 Karat Goldblätter enthielt.
Edvard Munch’s painting The Cry sold for $119,922,600 at Sotheby’s Impressionist and Modern Art auction on May 2, 2012. I heard the news on the radio and thought that Munch, who had never dreamed such a price, was himself crying. On the same day, I made 28 variations after The Cry on the sheets of a booklet that had contained 24-carat gold leaves.
